Talk about a card
Every card in your daily stack has a third door beside the mic and the pencil: a chat bubble. Tap it and the conversation opens with that card in front of Ember — the card sits in the chat where you can both see it, and whatever you say next is about it. Cards you've already answered, and cards that only ask to be read, can be talked about too.
Conversations, not one long scroll
Your day's chat is still one place, but it now knows when one conversation ends and another begins. Come back after an hour away, start talking about a different card, or start fresh, and a gentle wave with the time marks the break. Everything you said before stays right there to scroll back through — nothing is cleared — and Ember carries a memory of each earlier conversation into the next one, so "what did we land on earlier?" gets a real answer.
- Suggestions come back whenever a new conversation is about to begin, in a single row you can swipe through.
What to test
- Open today's cards and tap the chat bubble on one: the chat opens with that card in it, and Ember answers about the card.
- Chat, leave for an hour, come back and write again: a wave with the time appears above your new message, and the earlier messages are still there.
- Ask "what did we talk about earlier today?" — Ember should know.
- Update Ember on your Mac too: this release pairs with desktop 0.3.17.

- Start fresh replaces Clear. Your earlier messages stay on screen; the next thing you write simply opens a new conversation.
- Suggestions come back whenever a new conversation is about to begin.
Fixed
- A reply never gets cut off at the day's turn. If Ember is mid-sentence when your journal's day rolls over, the chat waits until the reply lands — and until you close it — before moving to the new day. Your next message always goes to the right day.
- The message box keeps anything you typed while a send was still on its way.
Update your other device too: this release pairs with Ember for iPhone 0.3.12, and the two are happiest on the same version.

A letter from Ember
At the end of each week you've written in, Ember writes you a letter — a short reflection on the week, in its own voice, grounded in your own words.
- It lives in your timeline. The letter is stamped at the end of the week it's about, between your days, and stays there for good — part of your journal's history, not a notification that disappears.
- It quotes you, faithfully. Anything in quotation marks is something you actually wrote, attributed to the day you wrote it. The themes it lists are counted from your own words, not guessed.
- It arrives glowing. An unread letter glows softly in the timeline — the newest one breathes (and holds still if your device prefers reduced motion) — and settles once you've read it. Reading a letter on one device quiets it on the others.
- It ends with a question from your week, to carry into the next one.
Weeks with only a little writing skip their letter — a letter needs a week to reflect on.
What to test
- After a week with a few entries, the letter appears at that week's end in the Journal timeline with a soft glow; opening it shows the full letter.
- The quotes in your letter are really yours, from the days they say.
- Reading a letter here quiets its glow on your other devices too.

- Start talking the instant you tap Speak. No pause, no waiting for the screen to settle — begin mid-thought and Ember keeps up from the first syllable. This is the single biggest reliability improvement in this release.
- Your words follow you between headphones. Connect or disconnect AirPods in the middle of a sentence and the live transcript carries straight on through. Previously the rest of that recording could arrive with only the first half written down.
- The live transcript is the result, not a preview. What you watch appear as you speak is what you keep; the second pass only refines it. Your entry is ready the moment you stop.
- A steadier hearth. Each word sparks once no matter how the recognizer changes its mind, the fire is sized from one consistent set of numbers, and the pause control has a fuller shape and a small haptic when you let go.

- A rescued recording now becomes exactly one entry, never a second copy alongside it.
- The notice about a recovered recording appears once and then stays out of your way.
- On the draft screen, the retry now sits with the message it belongs to instead of somewhere else on the page.

- Your voice is safe from the first second. Every recording is tracked from the moment you start speaking, and the audio is written to disk continuously as you talk. If a call cuts in, the battery dies, or the app closes mid-thought, nothing is lost — the next time you open Ember, the recording quietly finishes itself: transcribed, saved as an entry, audio attached. No prompts, no decisions, no re-doing.
- A calmer recording screen. LISTENING sits quietly at the top with a live word count and the elapsed time. A prompt can now ride along and stay on screen while you speak to it. Pause, resume, discard, and done are all one reach away.
- The hearth burns with your voice. Embers rise from the coals as you speak — the more you say, the livelier the fire, with little flurries on each new thought. Fall quiet and the bed stays warm for a while, the way a real fire holds its heat. Idle, it rests as banked coals, never dark.
- Haptics instead of chimes. Recording start and stop now confirm with a gentle tap you can feel with the phone in your pocket — nothing plays over your music, and nothing interrupts the quiet.
- Recordings play back reliably after updates. Older voice notes now find their audio every time, including after app updates.
- Smoother everywhere. Card swipes, screen transitions, and the journal feed all got a tuning pass — less friction, fewer skipped frames.
- Devices stay in step with less effort. Syncing with your desktop is quicker to catch up when you return, and gentler on the battery while you're away.

Ember now updates itself, shows what's new, and protects your journal before every migration.
Highlights
- Automatic updates with a restart pill. Ember quietly checks for new versions on launch and every few hours, downloads and installs them in the background, and surfaces a gentle "Restart to update" pill when a new build is ready. No more manual DMG downloads.
- What's-new inbox cards. Each release drops a card into your inbox summarizing what changed, so you actually notice the improvements you're getting.
- Automatic pre-migration backups. Before any database migration runs, Ember takes a timestamped backup of your journal. If a migration ever goes sideways, your data is already safe on disk.
- AI-log pruning. Diagnostic AI call logs are now pruned automatically on a 14-day retention window, keeping the database lean without you thinking about it.
Notes
Updates are roll-forward only — Ember never downgrades an install. Every versioned artifact stays retained on the release CDN, so a bad build is always fixed by shipping a newer one.
